Song on "The Anniversary" soundtrack

A few months ago our friend Chuck who did the Beulah documentary A Good Band is Easy to Kill contacted us about putting a song on the soundtrack for a movie he was editing. Here is the trailer. It seems that it is going to be released soon, one way or another, so you should check it out if you have a chance. Here's a review (note that they specifically mention how baller the soundtrack is). We are happy to be working with independent media.

Album out Tuesday

As you might have seen on the previous posts, the new album is finally out Tuesday (23rd). Order it here. We hope you like it. Tell your friends. It's snowing in Amsterdam right now. What else--oh, we found an extra box of One State Two States so we're offering a "bundle" for $20 that includes both full-length albums. Hi everyone, so the new album is back, and we really dig it. Becca and I decided that spending a lot of money to advertise on hip websites is kind of silly and contrary to the independent spirit, so we've gone for the old-fashioned word-of-mouth (in this case word of internet) marketing campaign. Thanks for helping us continue to make music.

New Album

The new album is finished. We've received the final masters and we're putting together all of the tiny details that are involved with releasing an album. One fortunate thing about being truly independent is that you can decide to do whatever you want with release dates and marketing and all of that. We're going to release sometime in January. We wanted to release in October (see previous posting) but that didn't happen so January it is. We also wanted to do a couple of show dates with our friends The Get Down Stay Down, but that didn't happen either. Hopefully sometime. Our friend Joe took some new press photos for us on a lovely California afternoon and we'll put those up soon as well. As always, very slowly and sparsely, we'll make another post when we have some more news. Oh, and by the way, here's the track listing:

Mixing a lot

Hello all, we’ve finally started mixing our new full length, entitled National Historic Landmarks. The October 13th release date is still looking good and we’re bursting with delight to be playing some shows to support the release! Presently, it’s looking like a west coast tour (although we yearn for more). It will be a thrill to get back on the road and meet some of you face to face. Dates will be posted soon (which I know in Light Footwork time could be months, but we are actually getting the details finalized now, so it should really only be weeks in this case). More to come…

¡Jackpot! or ¡Obamanos!

Obama won, and as we are upholders of our promises, Becca and I are sitting in the control room of Jackpot! studios deep in Portland Oregon. Willis is in the live room stunning us with his shaker prowess. We have used more percussion here than ever before. There are cymbal grabs. All this shaking comes 5 hours after Willy gets a phone call from a friend informing him that his drumming was featured on a super bowl commercial. Yes, get in line folks.

We are all here recording tracks for the next full length Light Footwork album. So not so dubiously, we are knee deep in a very weird yet inspired recording. We aren't sure what the cool way to release albums is anymore, so if anyone wants to give us clues please let us know. Cassette tape maybe? Also any aspiring DJ/Remixers out there, drop us an email.

All in all, this is being done in traditional footwork fashion. We got into the room with about 65% of each song written and kind of improvised from there. At this point, I for one, am very satisfied with the results. Becca has been playing a lot of bass. I've been playing a lot of bass. There is Baritone guitar, steel drums, porcelain bowl, anything and everything else you may want. We will keep you posted and abreast of our activities. Target release date is September 2009.

Go make babies so they can have the same birthday as our album!

Becca is coming out to see me in Boulder in a couple of weeks, and one of the ideas is to work on some new songs that we have been writing on our own. Hopefully we can just put some pieces together and it will rock so hard we will have no choice but to release it on your faces. Will definitely keep you posted on that. Also, Thanks to everyone who has been buying the Split on iTunes. We are completely out of the physical discs and the guy who was pressing them went out of business, so basically, they are all gone. If you have one, and you think it sucks, and you want to send it back, feel free! Being that we have many interests in life, and that takes us many directions, hopefully we will have a chance to put out another record in the next little while, but like anything in life, who knows. If we elect someone other than John McCain, we will probably make a record faster. Keep that in mind when you are dropping those chads. Talk to ya’ll soon. –Jay

Greetings all. I'm happy to say that the Split with Tereu Tereu is now available on iTunes. This comes not a moment too soon being that we're now completely out of the physical copies of the album. Thanks to everyone who bought one (or two!). We're working on getting more recordings finished and released, I'll keep you posted. Thanks for supporting independent music. Almost Spring

Greetings footworkers, I’ve been hanging out with Willis the last couple of days, enjoying some winter weather and beverages in Boulder, discussing some plans for the next record. Just 2 weeks ago I visited Becca’s new house and likewise discussed plans for the next record. We’ve both been busy with our big boy jobs, but we’ve got a lot of new songs that we’re polishing up to get into the studio with. If things go well, you should hear something in 2008 from us. Live shows are still few and far between, but we’ll probably want to do some to try out the new material. Stay sweet. -Jay

Howdy. As you know from our previous post, we've been working on putting out some more tunes. We've teamed up with our friends Tereu Tereu to put out a 6-song, 5-dollar, split EP. There are 3 tracks from each band. We'll start mailing them out Tuesday, but you can order them now on the Merch page. Also, there are some new press photos up on the Press page. Hello everyone, hope you had a nice summer. We did. Becca has a shiny new house and I got my hands on some new recording goodies, so we should soon all be harvesting fresh musical fruit. We are indeed prepping some new tunes for an upcoming release, nothing big, it will probably be a split with our buddies Tereu Tereu out of Virginia. Sorry for the lengthy dead air, but our day jobs have been taking a lot of time and building us quite a portfolio of airline reward miles. I've also set up shop in Boulder, CO for the time being, so we'll be doing a little more binge-working than before. Looking forward to updating y'all more frequently. -Jay

I'm sitting here in the kitchen/playstation room at Tiny Telephone. Becca is tracking a pretty savage travis-picked part to one of our new jams. For you gearheads out there, she's using an old Gibson Falcon combo amp (with a discrete preamp for just the Reverb!) and it's sounding great from in here. JV has really done a good job keeping this studio fresh and comfy (excluding the freaky mannequin in the hallway-gets me every time). Our hats off to him.

If you've already checked it out, or better yet if you've come to one of our shows, you may be wondering how we managed to build such a lifelike animatronic drummer and bass player. Wonder no more: they're actually real people. Yep, we've got Gautam Baksi holding down the bass and Kristina Vukic on the throne. So next time you see us, give them a good heckling!

Hey everybody, just wanted to show the front page its first action of 2007. We've got a lot of shows coming up in the next few weeks, and we're working on finalizing more as I type this. Becca has been working on some spiffy t-shirts that we should have ready by showtime and we've been tightening up the screws on the set--so go let your dog lick your face and come see us soon. Oh, and go Bears!

Live on KZSU - Dec 13

Greetings from Redwood City. In a few weeks, December 13th from 9-10 PM PST in fact, we're going to be doing a live set on KSZU's Wednesday Night Live program.
